Creamy hummus topped with olive oil and chili flakes on a blue ceramic plate, with a blurred olive oil bottle in the background.

Better-Than-Store-Bought Homemade Hummus

Forget the bland hummus from the grocery store — once you try this creamy homemade hummus, you will never go back to store bought. Caramelized garlic is giving hummus sweet and reach aromas, not sharp and "skip the date" taste as raw garlic.

Tahini and freshly squeezed lemon juice add freshness and that classic, well-balanced hummus flavor.

The secret to its silky-smooth texture lies in removing the chickpea skins, creating a hummus that’s noticeably creamier and more refined than anything from the store.

Ingredients
  • 3.04 g Salt
  • 60 g Olive oil
  • 480 g Chickpeas
  • 0.25 cups Tahini
  • 0.25 cups Lemon juice
  • 0.5 tsp Cumin
  • 1 pc Roasted garlic
Instructions
  1. Cut the top off the garlic bulb, place it on a sheet of aluminum foil, and drizzle with olive oil. Wrap tightly and roast in the air fryer at 180 °C (360 °F) for 20–30 minutes, depending on how caramelized you like the garlic. Once roasted, let it cool slightly, then squeeze the soft garlic cloves out of their skins.
  2. Drain the canned chickpeas in a strainer. For an ultra-smooth hummus, gently remove and discard the chickpea skins.
  3. Add the chickpeas to a blender together with olive oil, freshly squeezed lemon juice, tahini, ground cumin, the roasted garlic cloves and a few ice cubes. Season with salt to taste.
  4. Blend until smooth and creamy, pausing to scrape down the sides of the blender if needed.
  5. Spoon the hummus into a serving bowl or container, drizzle with extra olive oil, and serve immediately or chilled.
